Imagine this: You’re running late for work, the kids are demanding breakfast, and the only thing readily available is a box of sugary cereal. It’s a scene straight out of my own life, believe me! As a busy health coach and mom, I understand the struggle of juggling work, family, and healthy eating. But here’s the secret weapon in my arsenal: real food.

So, what exactly is real food? It’s simply food in its closest natural state – think fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lean protein, and healthy fats. The stuff that came from the earth or an animal, not a factory! On the other hand, processed foods are often loaded with added sugar, unhealthy fats, sodium, and preservatives – things that might be convenient but leave us feeling sluggish and zapped for energy.

Let me tell you a story. Before I became a health coach, I, like many busy people, relied heavily on processed foods for convenience. Breakfast was cereal, lunch was a microwavable meal, and dinner was takeout more often than not. This lifestyle caught up with me in a big way – I developed appendicitis, a serious health condition.

It was a wake-up call. I survived this through holistic health and yoga. After recovering, I decided to take a deep dive into holistic healing as a career, which you can read more about here. This journey led me to discover the power of real food.  Once I started focusing on real food meals, I noticed a dramatic shift. I had more energy to keep up with my kids, felt sharper mentally, and even my mood improved!

Real food fuels our bodies with the essential nutrients they need to thrive. It’s like giving your car high-octane fuel instead of cheap gas. You get more power, better performance, and a smoother ride. Real food can boost your energy levels, improve your mood, and even support a healthy weight.

Of course, life is busy. We all know the struggle of finding time to cook and shop for fresh ingredients. But here’s the good news: even small changes can make a big difference.  Don’t feel overwhelmed by the idea of a complete overhaul.

Minimally processed options can be your allies in these situations.  Frozen fruits and vegetables are a great way to get essential nutrients without sacrificing convenience.  Pre-cut whole grains like brown rice or quinoa can save you precious prep time.
